Die meisten jungen buddhistischen Männer gehen für eine Zeit als Mönch in den Tempel. Das ist nicht nur Anlass für eine religiöse Zeremonie, sondern auch für ein grosses Fest, welches man fast mit einem Junggesellenabschied vor der Hochzeit vergleichen kann.
Most young Buddhist men spend a certain time in a temple as a monk. This is not only an occasion for a religious ceremony, but also for a great feast, which can be almost compared with a stag party before a wedding.
Die Feier beginnt schon am Vorabend mit viel Tanz und Alkohol. Am nächsten Morgen wird der junge Mann zum Tempel gefahren, begleitet von einem Trupp Musiker und vielen Freunden und Menschen aus dem Ort, die sich singend und tanzend vor dem im Schneckentempo fahrenden Auto Richtung Tempel bewegen.
The celebration begins the night before as a party with lots of dancing and alcohol. The next morning the young man will be brought to the temple, accompanied by a troop of musicians and many friends and people from town, moving, singing and dancing in front of the moving car at a snail's pace towards the temple.
Die Familie des Novizen lädt Verwandte und Freunde ein, und es wird Essen und Getränke geboten. Die Gäste bringen natürlich Geschenke, am besten einen Umschlag mit Geld.
The family invites relatives and friends of the novice, and food and drinks are offered. The guests bring gifts of course, preferably an envelope with money.
Die Zeremonie heute hat mich stark an die neueste „Royal Wedding“ erinnert – man brauchte genau so viel Ausdauer. Allerdings ging es wesentlich ungezwungener zu!
The ceremony today reminded me of the latest "Royal Wedding" - it took just as much stamina. However, it was much more FUN!
Für diesen jungen Mann beginnen jetzt drei Wochen als Mönch.
This young man will be a monk for the next three weeks.
