Thanksgiving - Great Food, Wrong Date

Immer schon mochte ich das Entedankfest: Sich an den tollen Dingen freuen, die um uns herum wachsen, und daraus ein wunderbares Essen machen, das ist einfach schön.

Ich wollte einmal ein richtiges, amerikanisches Erntedank-Essen kochen, so, wie mein Liebster das von zu Hause kennt. Seine Familie hat uns mit Rezepten bedacht, und ich habe noch einige andere in diversen Weblogs gefunden.

Die Kocherei war ganz schön anstrengend, und deshalb gibt es auch noch nicht mal ein Bild vom Hauptdarsteller, dem Truthahn. Das muss dann irgendwann nachgeholt werden.

I always liked Thanksgiving: To enjoy the wonderful vegetables which grow in the area, and to make great food out of them, that's just beautiful.

I wanted to cook a real American Thanksgiving Dinner, like my Schatz knew from home. His family sent us some recipes, and I found some more in a number of weblogs.

Cooking was a real challenge, and that's why we don't have a picture from the main dish, His Excellency The Turkey. But there will be another day...




Zuerst kam die Füllung für den Vogel.

First came the stuffing for the bird.




Das ist ein Salat aus grünen Bohnen (unübersehbar...) mit einem Ingwer-Walnussdressing.

These are, without any doubt, green beans, made into a salad with a ginger-walnut dressing.








Jetzt die Zwiebeln, die es bei Familie B unbedingt geben musste, die Creamed Onions.

Now the onions which played a very important role in the B Family: Creamed Onions.



Und hier sind die kleinen Geschwister unserer Steckrüben. Gerade rechtzeitig habe ich diese Exemplare in einem türkischen Laden entdeckt, auf Türkisch heißen sie Shalgam (und ich glaube, auf Hindi auch).

And here we have the small siblings of our common turnips. I found them, just in time, at a Turkish shop where they are called "Shalgam" (and I think it is their Hindi name, too).
